Wanted: A Warrior To Show Some Steel

Well, Sean Dyche certainly knows how to plug a dyke!

Anyone who saw the first half of this match would surely have thought that Villa were so much on top that they should have been leading 2-0 or 3-0. But no, with a keeper like Nick Pope installed, Burnley managed to hang on - helped by the crossbar.

Anyone would also have thought that the Villa were going to be eventual winners, but Dyche and his motley crew - with our old chums Lawton and Westwood eagerly competitive even if lacking quality - came out after the break and suddenly looked a different team, especially when they equalised.

Jack's superb drive forward and save from Pope seemed to be a sign of Villa's resurgence, and indeed Jack got his well-deserved goal. At that point I did not see us losing ... but what do I know?

Looking back at this match and the previous 3 matches or so I seem to detect an air of over-confidence in the Villa team. And I have felt for a long time that although we have good players in Luiz and McGinn (and Nakamba) they do not have - for me - the physique nor perhaps the experience that the Villa need as the link between defence and attack.

So, we have just made a signing who declares himself to be "a warrior"and is, notably, substantially taller than Luiz and McGinn. At a mature-ish age of 26, on the face of it he could just be the answer to my long-held concern. The Villa management may have seen the same need to sign a player of Sanson's ilk.

Doubtless, we will not see him play too much to start with, but with uncertainty surrounding whether Barkley is to stay at Villa Park (and I am not over-impressed with him), I see 'Warrior' Sanson as being a potential main cog in front of defence for next season.

So let's get ready to shout a few war whoops for the 'Warrior'!

UTV!
